Printer not visible in Windows
What could be the reason my printer (TSC TC300) is not listed in Printers on my Windows, but I can still do a test print?
Not visible in Windows usually means a driver / port issue. This can be confusing, but it is more common with label printers. The most common causes:
1. Printer is hidden or offline
Sometimes it is in Windows, but as a hidden device or offline.
Check:
- Go to Printers & scanners
- Click on More devices
- Open Printer properties
- Check if: "Use printer offline" is off and if the correct port is selected.
2. Printer is installed as a USB port / virtual printer
Many TSC printers are not added as "normal" Windows printers, but work via a USB driver or a virtual port (e.g. USB001, TSC USB Port)
This means you can do a test print from the driver or TSC tool, but you won't see the printer in "Printers and scanners" or only very briefly.
Check:
- Go to Device Manager
- Look under Ports (COM & LPT) or USB controllers
- If you see something like TSC TC300, USB Printing Support or TSC USB Port -> then this is probably the cause.
3. Driver is incorrect (or wrong type)
Common issues:

Wrong driver (e.g. TC200 instead of TC300)

Driver only partially installed

Old or generic Windows driver
Windows does not "see" the printer as a printer, but only as a USB device
Solution:

Remove all TSC drivers

Download the official TSC TC300 Windows driver

Install it as administrator

Only connect the printer when the installer asks you to
4. Test print comes from the printer itself, not from Windows
The TC300 can print a self-test label via a button combination on the printer or via TSC Diagnostic Tool.
This works completely independently of Windows.
So even without a correct Windows installation, you will still get a test label.
5. Software uses a RAW / direct USB channel
Some label software prints directly via USB or without the Windows print spooler.
That's why printing works in that software, but you don't see any printer in Windows.
